Proceedings:
Meeting called to order at 1135 by LT Gilliard.
Motion to accept previous minutes tabled until next meeting.
Old Business:
-Membership
-Dues
-POC: LT Sanders
-Membership fees were collected at the meeting. The fees included
both National
and Local dues. Lifetime members were exempt.
Any member that joins NNOA after March, will receive a pro-rated fee.
-LT Sanders
will collect membership dues until Monday, March 31, 2008. Contact her directly
for further instructions.
- National
dues can be paid online at the NNOA website.
-Reminder:
If local dues are not paid, members cannot run for a seat on the Executive Board.
-Promotion
- POC: Lt Gilliard
- It has
been proposed that NNOA Bethesda use business cards, flyers and/or the website to promote membership interest and retention. It is believed that tangible items may contribute to peaked interest.
-Retention
-POC: Lt Sanders
- It is imperative that members of NNOA remain active within the
organization. Many times, members may volunteer for various
committees and/ or volunteer opportunities and not fully commit
to their obligations. Let’s work towards improving NNOA Bethesda!
-Scholarship Drive
-It is proposed that the next scholarship drive be included in the NNOA
Bethesda
newsletter to promote greater participation.
- 9 pledge forms were collected during the meeting.

-NNOA
Annual Conference
-POC: LTJG Carter, CAPT Parker
-The conference
is to be held from July 21-25, 2008 in the Tidewater Area (Portsmouth,
VA).
-Tentatively,
members are expected to provide individual transportation. Carpool opportunities can be discussed. Members who are planning to attend the conference, should have business cards with their contact information
available for networking opportunities. Dress whites will be the attire.
-For those
that are applying for TAD, now is the time to begin the application process. The
registration form for the conference is available online.
- Hotel accommodations
are at the responsibility of each member.
- There is
a possibility that a Local Chapter Booth will be available for
NNOA Bethesda at the Conference. If you are interested in running the booth,
please contact LT Gilliard.
-Members that
are interested in attending the conference, contact ENS Cuthbertson directly.
-Additional information TBA.
New Business:
-Voting
-Voting for seats on the Executive Board will take place at the next meeting.
-If you are interested in holding a seat and have not received an NNOA
Handbook, contact ENS Cuthbertson directly to receive a copy via email.
-Women’s History Month
-POC: Lt Gilliard
-NNOA Bethesda is committed to sponsor a cake for the WHM.
-Scholarship Banquet
-POC: ENS Thomas, LT Sanders, LT Ridley
-Date: TBA
-Discussion regarding allotment/selling of tickets for the scholarship banquet
is to be further discussed during the committee meetings.
-It has yet to be determined who will qualify for the scholarship. Discussion
regarding an enlisted Sailor accepted to a MECP or STA-21 program was
presented during the meeting. No final decision has been made. Scholars
that
are interested in the scholarship opportunity, will be requested to write an
essay. Details have yet to be determined.
-Military Program
-POC: Lt Sanders
-Members of NNOA are cordially invited to celebrate Memorial Day church
services located
at The Sanctuary Church. Members of NNOA will be recognized during the service. The
date has not been confirmed.
The service is planned to be at 1000 service.
-Church Visits
-In the past, it was a tradition for NNOA members to visit various churches
on the 5th
Sunday of each month. This tradition has not been upheld. Members have expressed interest in upholding the tradition. Further details to be discussed.
- LTJG Reynolds
has volunteered to have visitors to her church, Rehoboth International Covenant Church.
It is located in Baltimore, MD.
